Version Information

Transcribe! version 7.50 for Windows, Mac and Linux is now available. Note that version 7 for Windows and Mac will only run on recent systems (click the relevant download button above for details), so you may need to use version 6 if your computer is old. If you buy Transcribe! then you will get both a "license key" for version 7 and "registration name/number" for version 6 or earlier. There is more information about version 6 on this page.

Existing Users

If you already have a version 7 license key then you don't need a new key when you download, your existing version 7 key will be fine. This applies for instance if you were running 7.0 - 7.4 and are now downloading 7.5, or if you are re-installing version 7 after a computer crash.

If you are upgrading from version 6 or earlier to version 7 then you will need to use the version 7 license key which you will find in the email you received when you bought Transcribe! (unless that was a long time ago). Visit this page for more information about upgrades and license keys.
When you upgrade to version 7 from an earlier version of Transcribe! then it would be usual to uninstall the earlier version first (uninstall instructions are in the Help) but you don't have to. You can have version 6 and 7 both installed at the same time if you want.

New Users

Hardware Requirements

People sometimes ask what hardware is required to run Transcribe! (how much memory, disk space etc). The answer is that Transcribe! should run on any computer which can play sound and which is running a version of Windows/MacOS/Linux which Transcribe! is available for. Naturally Transcribe! runs faster on a more powerful computer, but you would need to try it to see what the performance is like on any particular computer.

You do need a colour display screen with a resolution of at least 800 * 600 pixels. This will not be a problem on any conventional modern desktop or laptop computer, but it may be a problem with the new very small "palm top" computers which are appearing these days.
