Transcribe! Version 6

Transcribe! version 6 came out in January 2003 after which Transcribe! was completely rewritten, with version 7 coming out in 2004. For more information about this, see the History page.

However, version 7 requires a more recent Windows, Mac or Linux OS version and there are still some people running older Windows / Mac versions who therefore cannot use Transcribe! version 7. For the benefit of these people, version 6 remains available and you can download it on this page.

If you are running Windows 2000/NT/XP/Vista, or Mac OS 10.3.4 or later, or Linux, then you can use Transcribe! version 7 which you will find on the Download page

But if you are running Windows 95/98/ME, or Mac Classic OS 7.5 - 9.2, or Mac OS 10.1 - 10.3.3, and you don't want to update your OS at the moment, then you can't run version 7 so you will have to use version 6 instead.

Note that if you buy Transcribe! you will receive both a "License Key" for use with version 7 and a "Registration Name/Number" for use with version 6. So if you are using version 6 now, you should keep the version 7 license key safe as it will enable you to run version 7 when you update your OS to a more recent version.

If you are upgrading to version 6 from an earlier version then the upgrade is free, version 6 will recognise that it has been registered already.

Version 6 system requirements : Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP with soundcard.
Though if you have Windows NT/2000/XP then you can, and probably should, use version 7.
Version 6 is not recommended for use with Vista. Use version 7.

This is a BinHex file, 1.1 MB. Click to download the file. Once it is downloaded to your computer it should unstuff automatically, but if not then drop the downloaded file onto the Stuffit Expander icon.

Version 6 system requirements : OS-X 10.1 or later on PowerPC.
Though if you have OS-X 10.3.4 or later then you can, and probably should, use version 7.
Version 6 will not run on Intel Macs. Use version 7.

If you are a registered user of the Classic version then you can use your registration info with this version as long as you observe the license agreement, but it won't happen automatically : you will have to re-enter the info to register the OS-X version. It's perfectly OK to have both Classic and OS-X versions installed on one computer. You can even run them both at the same time.

Warning
It seems Aladdin have introduced a bug in the OS-X version of Stuffit 8.0 and fixed it soon after, in 8.0.1. If you unstuff this download file with Stuffit 8.0.0 you won't be able to run it.
If this happens then update your Stuffit version, then download and unstuff Transcribe! again.
